Program Overview
The Basic Nursing Assistant (BNA) Training Program is a 27-unit module course consisting of theory and principles supplemented with clinical instruction and bedside patient care application under federal and state requirements. BNA students learn nursing roles and responsibilities, legal and ethical nursing issues, the healthcare delivery system, effective communication, emergency preparedness, and fundamental nursing skills.
Successful completion allows the student to meet eligibility requirements for the State of Illinois to take the Certification Examination. Our BNA Diploma program covers essential healthcare knowledge and patient care skills in just a few weeks of hands-on study.
What Do Basic Nursing Assistants Do?
Nursing assistants support the nursing team by ensuring patients are comfortable and safe, working under the supervision of LPNs, RNs, physicians, and other healthcare professionals — especially in long-term care facilities and hospitals.
- Helping patients wash, bathe, and dress
- Assisting with personal hygiene
- Monitoring blood pressure and temperature
- Feeding patients with limited mobility
- Helping patients move between bed and wheelchair
- Listening to patient and family concerns
- Discussing patient care with RNs and doctors

Aligns With CNA Exam Content
Our program teaches knowledge and skills likely tested on the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Examination. Many employers, including state-registered nursing homes and federally funded long-term care facilities, require nursing assistants to have passed the CNA exam.
Admission Requirements
To be accepted for admission, entering students must be at least 17 years of age, have graduated from high school or secured a GED, pass a background check, and pass the entrance exam.
